A FLAME OF FIRE
Friday,
April 26, 2002
EXODUS 3:2
And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush [was] not consumed. 3 And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. 4 And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here [am] I. 5 And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest [is] holy ground. 6 Moreover he said, I [am] the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.
DEUTERONOMY 32:22
For a fire is kindled in mine anger, and shall burn unto the lowest hell, and shall consume the earth with her increase, and set on fire the foundations of the mountains. {shall burn: or, hath burned} {shall consume: or, hath consumed.
ACTS 7:30
And when forty years were expired, there appeared to him in the wilderness of mount Sina an angel of the Lord in a flame of fire in a bush. 31 When Moses saw [it], he wondered at the sight: and as he drew near to behold [it], the voice of the Lord came unto him, 32 [Saying], I [am] the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob. Then Moses trembled, and durst not behold. 33 Then said the Lord to him, Put off thy shoes from thy feet: for the place where thou standest is holy ground. 34 I have seen, I have seen the affliction of my people which is in Egypt, and I have heard their groaning, and am come down to deliver them. And now come, I will send thee into Egypt. 35 This Moses whom they refused, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge? the same did God send [to be] a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel which appeared to him in the bush. 36 He brought them out, after that he had shewed wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and in the Red sea, and in the wilderness forty years. 37 This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear. {like...: or, as myself} 38 This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount Sina, and [with] our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us: 39 To whom our fathers would not obey, but thrust [him] from them, and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt,
HEBREWS 1:7
And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire . {And of : Gr. And unto} 8 But unto the Son [he saith], Thy throne, O God, [is] for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness [is] the sceptre of thy kingdom. {righteousness: Gr. rightness, or, straightness} 9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, [even] thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. 10 And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands: 11 They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment; 12 And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail. 13 But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool? 14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation
REVELATION 1:14
His head and [his] hairs [were] white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes [were] as a flame of fire ; 15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters. 16 And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance [was] as the sun shineth in his strength. 17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: 18 I [am] he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death
REVELATION 2:18
And unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write; These things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass;
REVELATION 19:12
His eyes [were] as a flame of fire, and on his head [were] many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. 13 And he [was] clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. 14 And the armies [which were] in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. 15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 16 And he hath on [his] vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS!
A PILLAR OF FIRE
EXODUS 13:21
And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night: 22 He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, [from] before the people.
EXODUS 11:24
And it came to pass, that in the morning watch the LORD looked unto the host of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and of the cloud, and troubled the host of the Egyptians,
TONGUES LIKE AS OF FIRE
ACTS 2:3
And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance!
TIMOTHY 3:6
And the tongue [is] a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. {course: Gr. wheel.
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE FIRE?
First, I will give the Scriptures, then I will give further explanation!
MATTHEW 5:22
But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.
LUKE 16:23
And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. 25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. 26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that [would come] from thence. 27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house: 28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. 29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. 30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. 31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
PSALMS 9:17
The wicked shall be turned into hell, [and] all the nations that forget God.
PSALMS 11:6
Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: [this shall be] the portion of their cup. {an horrible...: or, a burning tempest} 7 For the righteous LORD loveth righteousness; his countenance doth behold the upright. 12:1 To the chief Musician upon Sheminith, A Psalm of David. Help, LORD; for the godly man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men. {upon...: or, upon the eighth} {Help: or, Save} 2 They speak vanity every one with his neighbour: [with] flattering lips [ and ] with a double heart do they speak. {a double...: Heb. an heart and an heart} 3 The LORD shall cut off all flattering lips, [ and ] the tongue that speaketh proud things: {proud: Heb. great} 4 Who have said, With our tongue will we prevail; our lips [are] our own: who [is] lord over us? {are...: Heb. are with us} 5 For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, saith the LORD; I will set [him] in safety [from him that] puffeth at him. {puffeth...: or, would ensnare him} 6 The words of the LORD [are] pure words: [as] silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. 7 Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever. {them from: Heb. him, etc: that is, every one of them, etc} 8 The wicked walk on every side, when the vilest men are exalted. {men: Heb. of the sons of the men.
EZEKIEL 38:22
And I will plead against him with pestilence and with blood; and I will rain upon him, and upon his bands, and upon the many people that [are] with him, an overflowing rain, and great hailstones, fire, and brimstone. 23 Thus will I magnify myself, and sanctify myself; and I will be known in the eyes of many nations, and they shall know that I [am] the LORD.
LUKE 17:29
But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed [them] all. 30 Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed. 31 In that day, he which shall be upon the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back. 32 Remember Lot's wife.
REVELATION 14:10
The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: 11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.
REVELATION 20:10
And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet [are], and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
REVELATION 20:14
And
death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second
death. 15 and whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into
the lake of fire.
REVELATION 21:8
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
SOME OF THE ANSWERS ARE, PERTAINING TO THE QUESTION,
"WHAT IS THE REASON OR PURPOSE OF THE FIRE!"
Fire is purifying! Fire consumes! Fire gives light! Fire is dependent upon three thinks in the natural world (we are not referring to the spiritual world right now). The three things that a natural fire is dependent on are:
oxygen, heat and fuel.
I have found that there are plenty of old windbags that are full of enough hot air to start any fire!
They have plenty of fuel with their tongues to get things started including a wild fire! The wild fire is hot enough that once that it has been started (ignited) is very hard to extinguish, because there are enough blowhards to keep it going, (false, imitators of truth, professors of truth and are not the real thing, speaking lies). However, we do NOT need to be concerned about those WILD FIRES, because there are enough wet blankets to go around, (Church people know what I am saying here) to put out the fires.
God gave us the breath of Life and He certainly has the power to take is away (withdraw it from us), so God has PLENTY of OXYGEN. However we will not attempt to explain the scientific terminology of the gyroscopic effects of the centrifugal force, or gravitational force of the sun and moon on the planet earth at this point. Even though, they are involved in God's creation and design, requiring a greater amount of knowledge than I have.
One of the ways to keep a fire going (burning) is to add more fuel or oxygen to the fire. If a person would remove any one of these three things we have listed, fuel, oxygen or heat the fire would die, it could NOT REMAIN BURNING! This is in the natural sense!
THE FIRE OF GOD IS SPIRIT, AND NOT IN THE NATURAL!
JOHN 4:24
God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship [him] in spirit and in truth!
EXODUS 3:2
And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. 3:3 And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. 3:4 And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I. 3:5 And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground. 3:6 Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.
GOD CREATED ALL THAT THERE IS, THE SEEN AS WELL AS THE UNSEEN!
GOD CREATED HELL AND THE FIRE THAT IS IN IT!
GOD CREATED THE HEAT THAT THE DEVIL CAN'T STAND!
ACTS 2:3
And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance!
TIMOTHY 3:6
And
the tongue [is] a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among
our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. {course: Gr. wheel.
HEBREWS 1:7
And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire . {And of : Gr. And unto}
ROMANS 13:3
Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. 13:2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. 13:3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: 13:4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. 13:5 Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. 13:6 For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.
THIS IS THE REASON
That when a TRUE MINISTER OF THE GOSPEL OF CHRIST preaches or administers God's word, the people (sinners, unrighteous) begin to squeal and to squirm because the fire of God comes out of the Ministers mouth, convicting, revealing the sin within the sinner and of their unrighteousness.
The Holy Spirit of Fire, Anointing, Consuming, shedding light on, revealing and exposing the sins of UNRIGHTEOUSNESS. The Holy Ghost exposes, reveals the light of Jesus Christ and He shines into all the world for all of the world to see.
Truth is a fire, that is to hot, for the devil to withstand. The blood Of Jesus Christ is so PURE that the devil will not cross it, because the blood of Christ exposes evil, unrighteousness.
When the Words of Almighty God
are spoken out of a true born again believer's mouth, the words are so hot because of the HOLY, CONSUMING,
PURIFYING, FIRE OF GOD that the devil has to RUN AND FLEE EVERY TIME THAT THEY
GET ON THEIR KNEES TO PRAY. RUN DEVIL RUN!
