BLASPHEMY AGAINST THE HOLY GHOST - PART I

Matthew 12:31  Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the BLASPHEMY AGAINST THE HOLY GHOST SHALL NOT BE FORGIVEN UNTO MEN.

BLASPHEMY AGAINST ALMIGHTY GOD

[Leviticus 24:11  And the Israelitish woman's son BLASPHEMED THE NAME OF THE LORD, and cursed. And they brought him unto Moses: (and his mother's name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan:) 12  And they put him in ward, that the mind of the LORD might be shewed them. 13  And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 14  Bring forth him that hath cursed without the camp; and let all that heard him lay their hands upon his head, and let all the congregation stone him. 15  And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, Whosoever curseth his God shall bear his sin. 16  And he that blasphemeth the name of the LORD, he shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him: as well the stranger, as he that is born in the land, when he blasphemeth the name of the LORD, shall be put to death.]

[2 Chronicles 32:16  And his servants spake yet more against the LORD God, and against his servant Hezekiah. 17  He wrote also letters to rail on the LORD God of Israel, and to speak against him, saying, As the gods of the nations of other lands have not delivered their people out of mine hand, so shall not the God of Hezekiah deliver his people out of mine hand. 18  Then they cried with a loud voice in the Jews' speech unto the people of Jerusalem that were on the wall, to affright them, and to trouble them; that they might take the city. 19  And they spake against the God of Jerusalem, as against the gods of the people of the earth, which were the work of the hands of man. 20  And for this cause Hezekiah the king, and the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz, prayed and cried to heaven. 21  And the LORD sent an angel, which cut off all the mighty men of valour, and the leaders and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he was come into the house of his god, they that came forth of his own bowels slew him there with the sword. 22  Thus the LORD saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria, and from the hand of all other, and guided them on every side. 23  And many brought gifts unto the LORD to Jerusalem, and presents to Hezekiah king of Judah: so that he was magnified in the sight of all nations from thenceforth]

[Isaiah 65:3  A people that provoketh me to anger continually to my face; that sacrificeth in gardens, and burneth incense upon altars of brick; 4  Which remain among the graves, and lodge in the monuments, which eat swine's flesh, and broth of abominable things is in their vessels; 5  Which say, Stand by thyself, come not near to me; for I am holier than thou. These are a smoke in my nose, a fire that burneth all the day. 6  Behold, it is written before me: I will not keep silence, but will recompense, even recompense into their bosom, 7  Your iniquities, and the iniquities of your fathers together, SAITH THE LORD, which have burned incense upon the mountains, and BLASPHEMED ME upon the hills: therefore will I measure their former work into their bosom.]

[Daniel 7:23  Thus he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces.

24  And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings. 25  And HE SHALL SPEAK GREAT WORDS AGAINST THE MOST HIGH, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time. 26  But the judgment shall sit, and they shall take away his dominion, to consume and to destroy it unto the end. 27  And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him. 28  Hitherto is the end of the matter. As for me Daniel, my cogitations much troubled me, and my countenance changed in me: but I kept the matter in my heart.]

[Acts 13:45  But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and spake against those things which were spoken by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming.]

[Acts 18:5  And when Silas and Timotheus were come from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in the spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus was Christ. 6  And when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook his raiment, and said unto them, Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean: from henceforth I will go unto the Gentiles.]

[1 Timothy 1:19  Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck: 20  Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, THAT THEY MAY LEARN NOT TO BLASPHEME.]

[James 2:1  ¶My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.

2  For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment; 3  And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool: 4  Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts? 5  Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him? 6  But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats? 7  Do not they BLASPHEME THAT WORTHY NAME by the which ye are called?]

[Revelation 13:1  ¶And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads THE NAME OF BLASPHEMY.]

[Revelation 16:10  And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain, 11  And BLASPHEMED THE GOD OF HEAVEN because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds.]

BLASPHEMY AGAINST CHRIST

[Matthew 9:33  And when the devil was cast out, the dumb spake: and the multitudes marvelled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel. 34  But the Pharisees said, He casteth out devils through the prince of the devils. 35  ¶And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people]

{My own personal note on this point, VERSE 34 ABOVE also pertains to those people that claim that speaking in the UNKNOWN TONGUES OF THE HOLY GHOST is of and from the devil}

[Matthew 12:24  But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils. 25  And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand: 26  And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand? 27  And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges. 28  BUT IF I CAST OUT DEVILS BY THE SPIRIT OF GOD, THEN THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS COME UNTO YOU. 29  Or else how can one enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house. 30  He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.]

[Mark 3:28  Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme: 29  But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation: 30  Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit.]

{Question on this point! IS JESUS THE CHRIST, ALSO, THE HOLY GHOST?} John 14:16  And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you ANOTHER COMFORTER, that he may abide with you for ever;  John 14:23  Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. 24  He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me. 25  ¶These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. 26  But the COMFORTER, WHICH IS THE HOLY GHOST, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.}

[Luke 11:14  ¶And he was casting out a devil, and it was dumb. And it came to pass, when the devil was gone out, the dumb spake; and the people wondered. 15  But some of them said, He casteth out devils through Beelzebub the chief of the devils. 16  And others, tempting him, sought of him a sign from heaven. 17  But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth. 18  If Satan also be divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because ye say that I cast out devils through Beelzebub. 19  And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your sons cast them out? therefore shall they be your judges. 20  But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you. 21  When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace: 22  But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils. 23  He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth.]

[Luke 22:63  ¶And the men that held Jesus mocked him, and smote him.64  And when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face, and asked him, saying, Prophesy, who is it that smote thee? 65  And many other things blasphemously spake they against him.]

[James 2:7  Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called?]

BLASPHEMY

[EASTON’S DEFINITION of the word Blasphemy, In the sense of speaking evil of God this word is found in Ps. 74:18; Isa. 52:5; Rom. 2:24; Rev. 13:1, 6; 16:9, 11, 21. It denotes also any kind of calumny, or evil-speaking, or abuse (1 Kings 21:10; Acts 13:45; 18:6, etc.). Our Lord was accused of blasphemy when he claimed to be the Son of God (Matt. 26:65; comp. Matt. 9:3; Mark 2:7). They who deny his Messiahship blaspheme Jesus (Luke 22:65; John 10:36).  Blasphemy against the Holy Ghost (Matt. 12:31, 32; Mark 3:28, 29; Luke 12:10) is regarded by some as a continued and obstinate rejection of the gospel, and hence is an unpardonable sin, simply because as long as a sinner remains in unbelief he voluntarily excludes himself from pardon. Others regard the expression as designating the sin of attributing to the power of Satan those miracles which Christ performed, or generally those works which are the result of the Spirit's agency.]

[MATTHEW HENRY’S COMMENTARY:

Matthew 12:22-30 A soul under Satan's power, and led captive by him, is blind in the things of God, and dumb at the throne of grace; sees nothing, and says nothing to the purpose. Satan blinds the eyes by unbelief, and seals up the lips from prayer. The more people magnified Christ, the more desirous the Pharisees were to vilify him. It was evident that if Satan aided Jesus in casting out devils, the kingdom of hell was divided against itself; how then could it stand! And if they said that Jesus cast out devils by the prince of the devils, they could not prove that their children cast them out by any other power. There are two great interests in the world; and when unclean spirits are cast out by the Holy Spirit, in the conversion of sinners to a life of faith and obedience, the kingdom of God is come unto us. All who do not aid or rejoice in such a change are against Christ.

(MATTHEW HENRY’S, PERTAINING TO MATTHEW 12:31,32), HERE IS A GRACIOUS ASSURANCE OF THE PARDON OF ALL SIN UPON GOSPEL TERMS. CHRIST HEREIN HAS SET AN EXAMPLE TO THE SONS OF MEN, TO BE READY TO FORGIVE WORDS SPOKEN AGAINST THEM. But humble and conscientious believers, at times are tempted to think they have committed the unpardonable sin, while those who have come the nearest to it, seldom have any fear about it. We may be sure that those who indeed repent and believe the gospel, have not committed this sin, or any other of the same kind; for repentance and faith are the special gifts of God, which he would not bestow on any man, if he were determined never to pardon him; and those who fear they have committed this sin, give a good sign that they have not. The trembling, contrite sinner, has the witness in himself that this is not his case. 33-37 Men's language discovers what country they are of, likewise what manner of spirit they are of. The heart is the fountain, words are the streams. A troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring, must send forth muddy and unpleasant streams. Nothing but the salt of grace, cast into the spring, will heal the waters, season the speech, and purify the corrupt communication. An evil man has an evil treasure in his heart, and out of it brings forth evil things. Lusts and corruptions, dwelling and reigning in the heart, are an evil treasure, out of which the sinner brings forth bad words and actions, to dishonour God, and hurt others. Let us keep constant watch over ourselves, that we may speak words agreeable to the Christian character.]

Matthew 12:32  And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.

[Please note, that the above scripture does NOT state “whosoever speaketh a word against GOD OR THE SON OF GOD,” but instead states, the Son of man and it shall be forgiven him.]

ADDED NOTE

In these latter times and days, people have became very lax, free and loose with their statements (with some statements being evil) pertaining to Almighty God, Jesus The Christ (Yeshua The Messiah) and The Holy Ghost.

One of the intents of this document, is to caution people, NOT TO SPEAK EVIL AGAINST, ALMIGHTY GOD, JESUS THE CHRIST (YESHUA THE MESSIAH) OR THE HOLY GHOST!

Exodus 20:2  I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house

of bondage.

3  THOU SHALT HAVE NO OTHER GODS BEFORE ME.

4  THOU SHALT NOT MAKE UNTO THEE ANY GRAVEN IMAGE, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: 5  thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the lord thy god am a jealous god, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; 6  and shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

7  THOU SHALT NOT TAKE THE NAME OF THE LORD THY GOD IN VAIN; for the lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

8  REMEMBER THE SABBATH DAY, TO KEEP IT HOLY. 9  Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10  But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 11  For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

12  ¶HONOUR THY FATHER AND THY MOTHER: that thy days may be long upon the land which the lord thy god giveth thee.

13  THOU SHALT NOT KILL.

14  THOU SHALT NOT COMMIT ADULTERY.

15  THOU SHALT NOT STEAL.

16  THOU SHALT NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS AGAINST THY NEIGHBOUR.

17  THOU SHALT NOT COVET thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

18  ¶And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off. 19  And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die. 20  And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not. 21  And the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near unto the thick darkness where God was.

PERSONALITY AND ACTIONS OF THE HOLY GHOST

Is first stated in Matthew 1:18  ¶Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.  Matthew 1:20  But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. DOST THOU NOT FEAR GOD?

What we are stating is, if you have blasphemed the Holy Ghost, then according to: 1 John 5:7 “For there are THREE THAT BEAR RECORD in heaven, the FATHER, the WORD, and the HOLY GHOST: and THESE THREE ARE ONE.” you have BLASPHEMED ALMIGHTY GOD AND CHRIST ALSO, BECAUSE AS IT IS STATED,  the FATHER, the WORD, and the HOLY GHOST: and THESE THREE ARE ONE.

So stated another way is that if you have blasphemed Almighty God, then you MAY have also  blasphemed the HOLY GHOST.

REMEMBER, WHAT WE BELIEVE, DOES NOT CHANGE ALMIGHTY GOD!

HOWEVER, WHAT WE BELIEVE, CAN ALLOW ALMIGHTY GOD TO CHANGE US!
